Acqua di Parma: A resurrected icon of elegance from Parma.
Acqua di Parma started as a small factory in Parma. The first fragrance was created in 1916, Colonia, and was initially used to perfume men's handkerchiefs. Colonia became a true symbol of Italian elegance among American and European celebrities in the pre-war (1930s) and post-war (1950s) years. Among the passionate admirers of Colonia were Cary Grant and David Niven, Ava Gadner and Eva Turner, who were later joined by Audrey Hepburn. From a small factory, Acqua di Parma grew into a prominent house with a wide range of perfumes and cosmetics.
The perfume house Acqua di Parma almost disappeared if it were not for three passionate Italian fragrance lovers and entrepreneurs, Diego Della Valle, Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo (Ferrari) and Paolo Borgomanero (La Perla), who revived the brand in the early 1990s.
Reproducing old fragrances, they launched new projects such as the aromatherapy line Blu Mediterraneo, interior fragrances or a leather gallant travel collection. Today, the Italian legend is owned by the LVMH group, which is taking the brand further.
